1972 Chevy C-20 Truck w/
DELUXE CAYO CAMPER
TRUE TIME CAPSULE
TEXASTREASUREHUNTER.COM
If you visited a museum that specialized in vintage Camper Rigs of the past……this is what you would expect to see. This mind blowing true Time Capsule truck and CAYO Camper will astonish you.
The truck and camper have been mated together for over 50 years. First the truck……a 1972 Chevy C-20 with a 350 V8 and it’s the original engine. It is date coded 1972 on the valve cover. It runs beautifully.
Its mated to a 4 speed on the floor standard transmission which shifts through the gears as designed. The truck also has power front disc brakes and the original interior is in wonderful shape. The truck even still has its working CB radio from yester- years. Another truck note…..I have never seen a Chevy truck of this vintage with these extra deep dish rear wheels. They’re very kool, designed to handle the extra camper weight.
This rig has always been stored indoors. When we recently bought it, we jumped in, cranked her up, and drove two hours home with not one issue. And…..it kept up with traffic pretty good. The truck has original floor mats, original paint inside and under hood. The top side has had one repaint. At least I’m thinking it has. The truck has an incredible body, very very solid. Original floors etc. The original tailgate is in mint condition, and under the mattress in the camper. There are a few very small areas of rust on the bottom of doors. But not bad.
Now…….the camper! If you know your classic campers, you would likely recognize this camper as a Avion C-10 Slide in. Avion was a competitor to Airstream, but better quality. But the CAYO family were the original builder and designer and sold to Avion. So…..with that said, branded as CAYO this unit is an ultra rare original. The first of this camper series.
As the Texas Treasure Hunter for over 20 years…..I have owned most all the classic camper brands, so I have the experience to say this camper was likely never even used. It’s like a brand new original……“new old stock.” Super fine. You open the original oven or fridge…..and its like brand new, never used. The camper when inside, most friends I’ve shown it to, first say…..”its a lot bigger inside than I thought.” It is roomy, and the quality of the build…..well, still looks new but its 52 years old.
Think of the brand new campers sold today, then think about what they’ll look like in 52 years from now……
Sleeps two, has a double sink, heat, nice dinning area with original upholstery. Real solid wood cabinets. The unit even has a small but comfortable bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet.
You will NEVER find an original Camper/Truck combo like this again. Thanks for looking…….
